Loft: the abiding power of lightness, that rises from heaviness and becomes breath; the highest chamber of the earth, in the sense of the chambers of a heart. The active rising power of lightness that acts on a heavier object, lightens its tonal register to become “lift” and is said to “lift” it a-“loft.” In this way it enters the related realms of light and life.
