Fold: A closed field, that concentrates the range, or field, of grazing animals so that they can interact with human will. It is made by turning the wide mouth of “field,” spoken with broad, stretched lips, into the narrow, funnelling mouth of “fold,” spoken with lips thrust forward into a narrow entrance, opening out into an enclosed space with teeth, or, if you will, the third form of the field, the “fence,” which is spoken with the teeth clamping down. And so we get to eat.
