Rain: the appearance of water, either in soil (through rising damp and its artificial form, irrigation, but that’s latin, isn’t it, and darned handy for it) or air. Rain represents the point at which an earth (and sky) of water manifests in an earth of dryness (and air). It is a point of such deep creation that it opens the Book of Genesis and, indeed, the history of the West.
