Lid

Lid: the bending down of a substance to make a cover; the fold of a cover over a sleeper, a fold of skin over an eye, a circle of metal fashioned by a smith, a round disk of earth fashioned by a potter, and a steep slope sheltering a village are all instances of this energy, embodied by the art of earth and hand. In the early 20th century, this energy had been fully adapted to a Christian purpose, as Heaven. Now it is called sky, a generic substance for a generic people who live in elements but not energies.
