Four: the power of one doubled, then doubled again. It is a form of distance that precludes doubling again into eight. Instead, one doubles twice again, and again and again and again. This is the power of the individual, fully expressed. The power of the family unit is three. The power of the couple is two. The power of the self is one. The power of the individual, imbued with spirit, is five, the rose of Christian symbol, which places Christ at the centre of four’s cross. But this one, four, faces the four ways the human body can face. It does not see the centre, because it is all centre. It is one.
