Quell

Quell: a herd; a gathering of animals, from which young animals spring (or well) (as the animals do themselves) in the time of year given to them (spring). Ever-transformative, in herding culture the original name for the herd (a ku-ell) has become the act of taming, or quelling — in English, at any rate. Originally, it was the root of the act of questioning, as you can see in action with the group of pregnant does below, hanging out with one daughter from last year.
