Breast: a surging movement, such as that of a man pushing into waves; by extension, the front of a body, both physically, such as in a man’s breast or woman’s breasts, and emotionally, for a breast is the emotional face of humans, as it is the face of the body, rather than the face of the mind, with its eyes and nose and mouth. To breast opposition is to meet it at the height of the body and with the body’s energy, not with that of the head. Accordingly, the working face of a mine shaft (rarely high) is a breast and a temporary, breast-high military fortification is a breastwork.
