Mind: The power of joining with the world; a form of memory that can quicken into spirit. Mind is centred in the heart; it is a spiritual organ directly doubling the body in the world, as does memory. Connected directly to the physical perceptions of the body, to the blood and the lungs, its ability to respond physically to the physical world is strong. It also bridges the physical world with the world of spirit, which quickens it equally, in which case it is the body that is aroused by the mind rather than the mind that is called forth by the body. When the earth is understood through mind, it is revealed as memory; it is memory which animates men. All things on earth share this power. The loss of this word during the Enlightenment was one of the great tragedies of history.
