Shore: The energy of land rising through water into the air, named after the sound of water rolling sand and pebbles onto land and drawing them back (It is not the water that one hears but the earth and the water together.) It has come to define the space where this action takes place (The waves break on the shore.) At all times, it remains the active energy of land rising underfoot and supporting the body, which is the feeling of stepping out of a boat precisely at the moment it is riding a wave up onto a beach and being lifted up by the energy of waves being lifted up by land. It is one of a special class of words in which the earth is seen from the perspective of people living on water, not on earth.
New evidence shored up my argument.
