Pitch

Pitch: Fat oozing from a pine tree as it heats in the sun, like lard dripping from a skewered pig. It is an instance of ancestral humour and play, which makes it no less resonant, as, after all, pitch stuck onto a stave and lit with fire burns and smoke with fat and lights like a candle (made out of the wax, or fat, of bees.) From pitch comes pine, a candle of pitch, lit by the sun, and candle is coal, or what is left of a tree after its pitch has burnt away.  This is what fire looks like in a solid form:P2240021

Great to chew on on a hot summer day, too. (Might be a thought to pick the bugs and dirt and needles out of it first.)
