Mist: the power of dimness; typically, clear vision is “clouded” by fine particles of water in the air; the state of mistiness is not the water but the erasure of vision which they materially represent. Mist is a less threatening form of cloaking than fog. Both break the bond between light and air and replace it with water. In mist, it is by an understanding of water that one sees, as much as by light.
