Crescent

Crescent: the power of creation; creation rising out of potential or gesture; a moon at its full caught within the barest of lines, usually on the heads of animals known for their fertility, or in the shape of a child’s body, that holds within it the shape of the adult body to come. The gesture is present in ancient Egyptian statuary, in which souls are carved in air by having the stone which resonated with the soul’s power removed until the soul is held in air by the balance of the remaining stone. The myth of the goddess Athena springing fully-formed from the head of her father, Zeus, sketches out the crescent, and Zeus’s embodiment as a bull, with the barest of narratives.
